THE LETTER BELOW IS PROVIDED TO CHURCHES AS A FREE SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE A MEMBER OF OUR SITE OR NOT. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE IT AND MODIFY IT AS NEEDED AS YOU MAKE YOUR APPEAL TO YOUR CONGREGATION.
There are many tremendous organizations to give to, yet if you are unsure, we feel very confident in recommending Convoy of Hope - www.convoyofhope.org
It is with a great sense of burden and sadness in my heart as I prepare this note to you. Like you, I have seen such utter devastation and calamity unfolding before our eyes in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.
News outlets are doing a tremendous job in sharing the details of this disaster, and it seems that each day provides more insight into the plight of the people of Haiti.
Governments are springing into action, and of course, the United States continues to take the lead in situations such as this, especially with the reality that this is a very close neighbor.
Jesus said these powerful words in Matthew 25:34-36 (NIV) 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
Can there be a more appropriate scripture in the Word to get our eyes focused on the need before us?
While Governments do their job, we must also realize the reality that the Church is ultimately where acts of compassion and mercy originate. If ever there is an opportunity to show the love of God in a real and tangible way, it is now!
With this in mind, we will be receiving a special offering of love for the relief efforts in Haiti. You can rest assured this offering will go through the proper channels so that the money purchases the items which are needed most, and are targeted to the specific points which are high on the priority list.
When you arrive for service on Sunday, please remember that we will be receiving this special offering, and you may give to it by making your check out to the church. Please be sure to mark or memo your check or giving envelope as "HAITI RELIEF".
In closing, I would like to encourage you to be careful in your giving to outside groups unless you know for certain their track record is without reproach. One of the benefits of giving through the local church is that great care is taken to fund the ministries and groups we have worked with for many years.
Thank you so much in advance for your generosity and compassion toward the people of Haiti.
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor John Doe
